Focus stands for the attention we pay to detail, our customer’s needs and our dedication to deliver the best possible value for your money.


The home base for Focus Kite Designs is in Wilmington, NC, where Hunter Brown owns and operates Blowing in the Wind kite and kitesurf shops. Hunter has been in the kite industry for over 16 years and was a driving force in the progression of freestyle sport kite flying in the late 90’s. Hunter has extensive experience in kite construction, and for a long time desired kites that were tailor-made to his and his customers’ specific wishes. Hunter saw room in the market for a small, tightly managed kite studio where concept, design, manufacturing, quality control and sales could all be closely controlled.

Enter Paul de Bakker, longtime kite flier, competitor, performer and designer, with a formal education in composites engineering. Paul had long desired to design and market kites under his own label and, with the experience he gained working with 3 major European brands, he was ready to take things to the next level.

When the opportunity arose for the two to collaborate, Focus Kite Designs was born….

 

The guys at Focus quickly realized they were going to need help with promoting their products. Long time friend and accomplished kite flier, Lisa Willoughby, was the obvious choice.

Lisa has been flying kites ever since she was 12, and started flying kites competitively in 1998. She has been flying in literally every discipline you can think of and has a number of National Championships to show for it. Her versatility as a kite flier, combined with her sparkling personality and knowledge, made her the perfect team flier for Focus.

Lisa’s main job with Focus is flying our kites, making them look good and representing Focus at festivals, competitions and events. She has become a valued team member and part of the Focus family.
